Our client is a dynamic and innovative company specializing in polymer molded optical components and polymer optics-based systems for lighting, biomedical and automotive customers. They are on a mission to expand their customer base and provide exceptional products/services to a wider range of customers and markets. To support this growth, our client is seeking a Senior Sales Engineer. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of building strong sales / order pipelines, closing new business, and exceeding sales targets and growth rates. This position will report directly to the CEO and will be a critical component to the growth of the organization.

Position Overview: We are seeking a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced Senior Sales Engineer with a passion for hunting and creating new business opportunities within the optics and photonics industry. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in optics, coupled with an exceptional sales drive and acumen and relationship-building skills. This person can find business opportunities, capture them, and maintain and grow those relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

New Business Development:

    • Proactively identify and pursue new business opportunities within defined market verticals, including but not limited to: Automotive, Life Science, Tactical Defense
    • Identify, cultivate, and close key accounts that align with the Company’s Ideal Customer Profile (“ICP”)
    • Build and nurture relationships with key decision-makers, influencers, and stakeholders to drive business growth.
    • Develop and execute strategic sales plans to penetrate new markets and expand our client’s customer base, using KPI metrics to gauge results

    Technical Consultation:

      • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, providing expert technical consultation on polymer based optics components, systems and photonics solutions.
      • Understand clients’ specific needs and challenges, and tailor solutions to address their requirements effectively.
      • Collaborate with internal technical teams to develop customized solutions and proposals that meet clients’ objectives.

    Sales Leadership:

      • Lead the entire sales cycle from prospecting and lead generation to contract negotiation and closure.
      • Utilize strong negotiating skills to drive favorable contract terms and agreements while maintaining long-term customer satisfaction.
      • Stay abreast of industry trends, the competitive landscape, and market dynamics to identify opportunities for business growth and innovation.

    Customer Relationship Management:

      • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and retention, with the goal of growing share of customer’s business.
      • Act as the primary point of contact for client inquiries, concerns, and feedback, and address them promptly and effectively.
      • Collaborate closely with cross-functional internal teams, including product development, marketing, and customer support, to deliver seamless customer engagement and sales process experiences.

    Other Key Responsibilities:

      • Technology and process: build and maintain a healthy contact/engagement pipeline throughout the sales cycle, contributing to enhanced prospect development, lead generation, prospect qualification, analysis, pricing, contract execution, onboarding and customer service follow-up.
      • Leverage technology and sales tools to improve the initial lead through sales close process and expand sales opportunities, including implementation and usage of a sales process (CRM) tool such as HubSpot.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in technical sales, preferably within the optics and photonics industry.
    • Understanding of optical technologies, including lasers, lenses, and imaging systems a plus.
    • Proven track record of success in driving new business development and achieving sales targets.
    • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
    • Proficiency with a CRM and/or other sales enablement tools
    • Demonstrates skill in making independent decisions in support of company goals, objectives, policies and procedures in a timely manner.
    • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally as needed up to 50% of the time.
