REPORTS TO: Vice President, Advanced Research & Technology Development

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• You will serve as the group leader, manager and technical expert for a highly talented team of ~6 scientists and engineers
• At any given time you will oversee multiple parallel projects focused on developing advanced sensor technologies and precision measurement products.
• • Define objectives, resources, tasks, schedules, and budgets
  • Drive execution to ensure efficiency and technical excellence
  • Communicate and coordinate with stakeholders, including senior leadership, peer managers, and corporate partners in Asia.

• As a manager and team leader you will guide early-stage research initiatives to identify and validate emerging technologies for precision metrology and inspection applications.
• As a technologist you will be a hands-on technical contributor in support of R&D projects
• Act as a leader and mentor you will support staff growth through mentoring, training opportunities, and career development.
• Responsible for Ensuring access to state-of-the-art tools, equipment, and facilities for your team/group.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations to expand the group’s technology footprint
• Act as an advisor to senior management on technology roadmaps and strategic technical directions
• Champion and actively promote our client’s unique company culture and values

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

• PhD. in physics, applied physics, optics, or a closely related field
• 5+ years of industry experience in new product R&D, including at least 2 years managing scientific, technical, or engineering personnel
• Accomplished, high energy individual able to effectively lead multi-disciplinary teams of scientists and engineers
• Strong foundation in sensor technologies for precision measurement, including optics and/or electromagnetics
• Solid understanding of system engineering and system integration
• Skilled in planning and managing scope, schedules, and resources for complex technical projects
• Hands-on experience with laboratory instrumentation for sensing and precision measurement, as well as data acquisition hardware and software
• Proficiency with numerical analysis and modelling tools such as Python, MATLAB, COMSOL, Zemax
• Experience collaborating across mechanical, electronic, and other engineering disciplines in a cross-functional environment

• Able to coach, mentor and inspire individuals to achieve top performance
• Ability to develop new tools and capabilities in anticipation of technological and product advancements
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to formulate and clearly articulate solutions to complex challenges
• Able to effectively communicate with stakeholders across organizational lines and geographies, including customers, project team members, and senior leadership
• Knowledge and appreciation of Asian / Japanese business culture is a plus
